In case you missed it: here was the big news that changed our life!
Damian Patrick Sisk is here! Although only 8 lbs 12oz and 20 inches long, he has already made one of the greatest impacts on our lives.
After staying at home as long as possible on Monday morning, Kevin and Megan rushed (safely) to the hospital... only to find no parking - We mean ZERO parking available in what felt like a half-mile radius. While staggering through the West Texas winds, Kevin tried to wave down the "courtesy van" meant to pick up those who were left stranded, but since Megan had to double over from time to time to help with breathing and Kevin had luggage in one hand and a birth ball in the other, we suspect the driver couldn't notice that we needed help.
We met our doula (birthing assistant) right around noon up on the delivery floor and went straight into Triage so they could get Megan prepped and ready as one can be for delivery. We went almost immediately over the delivery room because Megan's contractions at this point were less than a minute apart. Megan suspects Damian was almost as ready to meet his parents as we were ready to meet him, because by 3:45 in the afternoon Damian was here!
He glanced all around with his big deep blue eyes as the doctor held him up and handed him to Megan, probably trying to figure out why everyone was crying! Dr. Casanova could tell that Kevin showed a little more interest in the medical aspect of the birth than most husbands, and went out of his way to explain everything going on - he even let the proud papa cut the cord! We assure you that everything could not have gone more perfectly - Damian was completely awake and alert, and Megan just had the biggest smile the world has ever seen as she held in her arms the child she had held in the womb for so long.
Many of our friends have already all commented on how Damian Patrick is the first Sisk ever to arrive on time; he came right in the middle of the day on his estimated due date.
That afternoon and the next day we were blessed by friends and family all making the trip to come and see us and our newest addition to our family. After some rest and a dozen or so tests for Damian - both he and Megan.... and Kevin were cleared for discharge exactly 24 hours after being admitted up on the Postpartum floor. We got home last night around 7:30 or 8, and although fatigued, found the energy to get Damian out the backseat, past the paparazzi (aka family), and into our little home.
Kevin has the rest of the week off, and since we are blessed by Spring Break being in the middle of her maternity leave, Megan will have about 7 weeks to recover and help get Damian off to a great start in the world.
As you can tell, by checking out a few of the highlights we've attached, Damian has dark hair in the back and lighter hair in the front of his perfectly round head. He has big deep blue eyes that have already started to darken up a bit and wrinkles from head to toe with a flat little button nose. His fingers and toes stretch out for miles ,and, just as he did in the womb, he loves to keep his hands up around his chin or in his mouth nearly all of the time. The consensus is that Damian's got his dad's face with mom's sweet Petunia lips (we'll have to wait and see just how far his nose ends up sticking out to figure out if that's Kevin's too or not).
We love you all very much, and have so much respect and admiration for our parents after such a life-changing event. We can not wait to share this blessing with each of you!
